It's been a while, a long while, and though I don't think anyone is still checking this regularly, I'm posting to please Miss Caitlin. :)
It's been a pretty crazy couple of weeks. Who knew that the end of the year, even with just 2 classes, would be insane? Granted, it was less insane than previous years, but still. Between running to the Registrar, CAS, and Studies Abroad offices, starting and finishing my Business project, and figuring out what exactly is going on this weekend...well, I'm amazed I'm still sane!
Let me explain a few things.
Getting grades from France approved was the most ridiculous bureaucratic affair I've ever been through (so far) in my life. First, the school lost my actual transcript. The honest-to-goodness original copy could be found nowhere. Admissions had it at one point, and supposedly sent a copy to Studies Abroad. Belinda (the angel from Studies Abroad) helped me determine that the original copy was in fact lost, so I had to get another transcript sent from France (even though they had copies that said the original had been received). Fast forward 2 and a half weeks later. The original copy has been on campus for 2 weeks now, and my transcript still has not been updated. So I go to the Registrar where the student worker tells me to check with CAS (College of Arts and Sciences, the people who approve the grades and credits from other schools) first. So I go to CAS, where Aimee (the person who actually approves everything) told me she had already approved everything and sent it back to the Registrar. So I go back to the Registrar where the same student worker is all like, "Well, I don't know, maybe they'll roll out with the Spring grades." So I ask her if that's normal and who would know for sure, and I kid you not, she said, "I don't know. I don't think anyone knows that." REALLY?!?!?! I should have complained, but Aimee told me that it didn't matter if the grades were on the transcripts or not because she had already approved them, and that's what really mattered. So if my France grades still are not on my transcript after the Spring grades have "rolled out" then I'll complain.
My business project was quite possibly the weirdest group project I have ever worked on. We picked our topic exactly a week before everything was due - steroids and their effect on Major League Baseball. Even though it would not have been my first choice, the boys were happy with it, and it involved making nothing up (don't even get me started on this part of the story), so it was fine with me. Then 5 days before the paper was due, we assigned parts of the paper. Each of us had to write about 2 pages, send it to Riley who would add transitions, and intro, and conclusion, then he was going to send it to me to edit the whole thing. I volunteered to do this b/c I am used to working with people who can write. Let's just say when the paper was sent to me, the content was good but the grammar was not. It was also the night before it was due when I got it. So it was a long night as well. In addition to the editing, I offered to put everyone's PowerPoint slides into one file for our presentation. This was pretty easy actually, I just had to pick a uniform background and I made a pretty sweet Title Slide, if I do say so myself. The presentation itself went pretty well. It may have had something to do with the fact that I had no expectations whatsoever, but in all actuality, we did a good job. Which is good, because if I had blow-dried my hair for a bad presentation that day, I would not have been a happy girl.
Well, in 3 days it will be official. I will be a college graduate! Steph is coming up tonight and the fam is coming in on Saturday. It's going to be a BUSY weekend, but I'm looking forward to it. I already have my cap and gown even! As for my plans after college - I have no clue. I'll be in Portland until Memorial Day Weekend, at which point I'll pack up and head back to California. Because I don't find out until the end of May about teaching in France, I'm currently looking for summer jobs and learning that cover letter and resume writing is HARD!!! Oh well, I'll figure it all out.
Well, here's what I remember, it's been a long time. I know there's more, sorry!
-Ate at the Bagdad with Nicole. I do love McMenamin's. I even tried a new burger - the communication breakdown. I probably cut 5 years off my life by eating it, but man it was good.
-Saw National Treasure 2 at the Avalon. I am SO excited for National Treasure 3!!!
-Got a free scoop at Ben and Jerry's on Free Scoop Day AND a 31 cent scoop at Baskin Robbin's on 31 cent scoop night :)
-Went to Virgo/Pieces for Amie's birthday. It wasn't bad. Good crepes.
